Project Details
Simulation of the mechanical deformation and movement of droplets under the influ-ence of strong electric fields (A05)
Subject Area
Chemical and Thermal Process Engineering
Term
from 2010 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 84292822
The project is concerned with the modeling of droplet dynamics under the influence of strong electric fields. The main problems of interest are i) investigation of water droplet oscillations and the related electrical discharge behavior on insulating surfaces, ii) modelling of electrically controlled drop-on-demand generators and iii) simulation based characterization of electrosprays. A novel electrohydro-dynamical simulation model will be employed in the investigations. This model describes the full electroquasistatic field dynamics for multi-fluid problems including convective current flow as well as transient droplet charging effects.
