In TP-A3 fundamental mathematical problems are considered that occur in modeling compressible multiphase flows. To this end sharp and diffuse interface models for the description of the phase boundary are analyzed in a complementary way. For the sharp interface approach, solutions of generalized Riemann problems with phase transitions are developed, which, in turn, are included as microscale solvers in the software package FS3D.comp of the SFB-TRR 75. The diffuse interface approach is used to describe critical phenomena like, for example, droplet-wall interaction. Finally, both approaches will be used to describe local droplet dynamics in a multiscale spray model.
