Project Details
Development of Numerical Methods for the Simulation of Compressible Droplet Dynamics under Extreme Ambient Conditions (A02)
Subject Area
Fluid Mechanics
Term
from 2010 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 84292822
The focus in FP 3 is the simulation of the experiments with respect to droplet evaporation and the jet break up based on the developed compressible flow solver FS3D.comp. An important research topic remains the consistent thermodynamic modelling of the phase interface. Based on a ghost-fluid method the phase interface is kept sharp and coupled by an approximate solution of the multiphase Riemann problem. Information from the microscale as evaporation rate is incorporated into the local macroscopic solution at the interface. The numerical simulation should support the analysis of the experimental results and contribute to the identification of the fluid and gas phase.
