Combining material-specific density functional theory calculations and state-of-the-art experimental thin film growth and characterization techniques, our objective is to achieve a fundamental understanding of the phenomena arising at complex transition metal oxide interfaces. We explore systematically the interplay between reduced dimensions, strain, electronic correlations and spin-orbit coupling in realizing topologically nontrivial electronic and magnetic states.
