In a laboratory experiment calcite is precipitated using a karst-analogue set-up. This study aims to show the effects of kinetic, evaporation and exchange processes on the carbon and oxygen isotopes as well as on selected trace elements of synthetically precipitated carbonates. Such data are crucial for understanding the record of stable isotopes and trace elements in natural speleothems and their relationship to palaeoclimate. The experiments are carried out using a set-up which allows to individually control a variety of relevant parameters such as temperature, humidity, pCO2 and drip-rate. The experimental set-up will be varied in order to get homogenous and heterogeneous nucleation. In addition, the experiments will be modeled using PHREEQC.
