Reform agendas, policy diffusion and the consequences of intra-party position-taking (C02)
Subject Area
Political Science
Term
from 2010 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 139943784
The project analyses how intra-party politics affects what reforms parties demand and implement. First, we seek to develop and test a theoretical account capturing the effect of intra-party position-taking on citizens’ perceptions of parties. Second, using a social network perspective, we study how MPs form networks to more effectively work in parliament. Third, we research the impact of intra-party politics on policy diffusion in parties’ position-taking activities and whether membership participation in the formulation of party policies enhances or limits the impact rival parties’ and foreign parties’ policies have on the focal party policy position. Each of these aspects is crucial to our understanding of how intra-party position-taking shapes reform-making by political parties.
