Project Details
Identification of volatility-controlled refractory lithophile element fractionation on asteroidal and planetary scale
Applicant
Professor Dr. Andreas Pack
Subject Area
Mineralogy, Petrology and Geochemistry
Term
from 2010 to 2014
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 147293768
Using advanced analytical techniques, we will determine the relative abundances of refractory lithophile elements in bulk chondrites and selected terrestrial materials. The goal is the identification of volatility-controlled fractionation of refractory lithophile elements on asteroidal and planetary scale. The results will have important implications on understanding of the origin of refractory lithophile element fractionation, e.g., Nb/Ta or Sm/Nd between terrestrial planets and chondrites.
