The Central Project 1 serves as the central core facility of the clinical research unit for co-ordinated handling of primary multiple myeloma (MM) samples, access of the different subprojects to patient material and for provision of access to the clinical data collection of these patients. The central tasks include:• MM sample processing according to standardized protocols • immunohistochemical and immunofluorescent analyses in bone marrow biopsies of selected proteins of oncogenic signaling pathways• provision of purified tumor cells to the subprojects for functional in vitro experiments• employment of murine and humanized MM mouse models to further elucidate oncogenic signaling pathways and to develop novel treatment concepts.
