Real-time reconstruction for MR Angiography

The aim of this research project is the development of basic technologies to replace the currently used X-ray imaging by MR imaging in vascular interventions. Therefore, we have developed fast MR image acquisition and reconstruction techniques to visualize the movement of instruments in real time. With fast projection pulse sequences we could show that a 3D visualization of the anatomy is possible with a stereoscopic displays and dedicated MR sequence modifications. Within this project continuation the promising results of the fast stereoscopic MR imaging shall be continued to apply them directly at the MR system for the control and supervision of an MR-guided intravascular intervention. In addition, the motion field of the blood vessels will be estimated by extracting motion information from both MR phase contrast data as well as position measurements with active catheters. The aim of this continuation proposal is to create a fully functional supervision system for complex interventional procedures by a combination of the previously developed projection imaging with a fully MR-compatible 3D monitor. By integration of the motion information from phase contrast data which can be extracted from the MR raw data with nearly no time penalty, additional information for the reconstruction of 3D models will be provided to the other project partners. By comparison with the phase contrast data with position information from active catheter tracking consistency tests will be developed to avoid encoding errors of the instrument position.
