Final Report Abstract

The Federative Factory Data Management (FFDM) integrates all domain-specific information technology (IT) tools of the product development and production planning to support simultaneous engineering. Instead of creating one uniform monolithic data model for the fine-grain data integration, a federative approach is chosen which loosely couples product, process and resource data. Product data includes data about the work piece like work piece model structure and the material. Process data are data about the manufacturing and assembly process within the production. Resource data respects data about the machines, the tools as well as the lubricants. The approach uses web services within a service oriented architecture (SOA) based on established internet standards and technologies like the web service description language (WSDL), the extensible markup language (XML) or SOAP. Within the project a concept for FFDM is created. This concept is transferred to prototypical implementations. These implementations include server side implementations of web services and the Integration of selected IT tools to the FFDM like computer aided design (CAD), computer aided manufacturing (CAM), material flow simulation (MFS) or product data management (PDM). All web services are secured by encrypting the data packages, encrypting the exchanged messages and signing messages using established encryption standards and methodologies like advances encryption standard (AES-256) and keyed-hash message authentication code (HMAC). On client side a standalone implementation for conventional workstations and a mobile application for mobile internet devices are implemented. Via the web services they grant access to all product, process and resource data as well as to the appropriate data management operations. Roles and view management controls the access to this data as well as the customization of the user interface. As exemplary presentation a matrix view of linked data is implemented which shows metadata of coupled product-process, product-resource and process-resource data to support the simultaneous engineering tasks. Another example overs the visualization of material flow simulation models and simulation data. V\/ithin the user interface the simulation is modeled and then performed using web services provided by the FFDM. Intermediate stats of the simulation as well as the results are presented as flow charts, line charts and Sankey diagrams. Further research fields, especially the possibility to integrate cyber-physical systems (CPS) into the FFDM by using REST endpoints are addressed in the final report.
