Optical Spectroscopy of Tetraphenyl Poryphyrin Oligomier Flms
Final Report Abstract
In the case of the porphyrin monomers, the tunable character of the optical constants is revealed by modifying the core substituents. The newly determined optical constants can be used in designing and optimizing the optoelectronic devices, particularly photovoltaics, based on porphyrin films. It was found for the first time that the thermally grown porphyrin films are not stable in the air. The aging induces aggregates formation reflected by optical anisotropy. This type of structural change has a direct impact on the device performance; therefore the aging of porphyrin films should be avoided. The decomposition of the porphyrin dimers during the thermal evaporation in vacuum was not expected to arise. Theoretically, they were supposed to be chemically stable.
