ing virions. The major ephasis on this proposal is focused on the role of Ubiquitin and Ubiquitin modifying enzymes (lyases and hydrolases) in retrovirus budding. With this we will continue our previous studies in this field where we together with others demonstrated, that an upsteam factor of ther Ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS), the 26S proteasome, is required for efficient budding of HIV-1 and some other retroviruses. Our work will contribute to the basic understanding of virus budding. Further it might also lead to the validation of specific components of UPS as potential targets for novel antiretroviral therapy.
