Control of HSV-1 specific replication and transmission mechanisms in human dentritic cells (B02)
Subject Area

Dendritic cells (DC) play a crucial role in order to elicit potent antiviral immune responses. This study aims to explore the interplay between this important cell type and HSV-1 in order to characterize viral immune escape mechanisms and in the long run to develop new antiviral strategies. In addition, in the last funding period we determined the 3D crystal structure of the extracellular domain of the immunomodulatory CD83 molecule, which is a viral target, at 1.7 Å resolution. We will now identify the regions which are important for its immunomodulatory function and for binding to its ligand.
