Activation of CO2 on ZnO surfaces and subsequent reactions with nucleophilic coadsorbates
Final Report Abstract
One of the most important results of the project was the demonstration that vibrational spectroscopy is the ideal tool to study the chemical activity of oxide particles. Whereas results for powders had been available for a long time, the interpretation of the IR-powder data was always difficult or even impossible because of the lack of adequate reference data for single crystal surfaces. In the course of the project it has been demonstrated that with the availability of reference data for single crystal surfaces recorded either by EELS or IRRAS the interpretation of the powder data is much more straightforward. In that sense the project has also laid the foundation for an important development in the field which in the meantime has led to additional publications. The project has also laid the foundation for the first demonstration that IRRAS spectroscopy on ZnO substrates is possible in a reflection geometry on single crystals.
